We have a new project hung up in our hallway! We each made a large spring flower and then wrote 2 things we like to do in the spring in the flower. These students sure had some great ideas of things they like to do! I was impressed! They will be very busy this spring! :)

Easter Baskets and Cards
We spent some time last Thursday making and Easter card for someone special to us. WOW! These turned out great and they wrote some excellent things to the people they were giving the cards too! I was very impressed! We also earlier in the week had created an Easter basket that got filled by the Easter bunny here on school! Oh the excitement we had! Enjoy!
Bunny Knowledge
With Easter last week we spent some of our writing time doing Easter activities. One Easter activity we did was to work with a partner and fill out a web on facts we knew about rabbits. It was great to see all the knowledge they had on rabbits. They knew more than Mrs. Hendershot! WOW! They also worked very hard with their partners on this and it was great to see them working together!

We have
really been working on a variety of comprehension strategies in our
classroom. We are working on
Metacognition, Schema, making a picture in your mind, determining importance,
questioning, and inferring. All of
these take a lot of time and require your child to think about what they are
reading in their book club books.
Please ask them to tell you what each of these mean! We are also beginning to re-test for
new levels at our Guided Reading Level.
Please make sure to ask your child how they are doing.
Math:
We started these past
two weeks off with a new math unit on the numbers to 100. We have the first 30 down but now are
really working on the rest. Some
of us are really good with these numbers and a great at helping all of us
understand. We have spent the last
2 weeks understanding the tens and ones that go into making these numbers. It can be tricky but we are getting
it. J
Science:
We have finished up our
investigations on leaves and now we are working on what comes from trees. We spent some time outside under the
trees picking up objects that might have fallen from a tree. That was a lot of fun! We are still going to continue to go on
many “hunts” as we continue to learn about different types of trees.
Helpful
Hints:
· Start to work on recognizing and
counting penny, nickel, and dimes.
· Start talking about place value
the tens and ones.
· Continue adding and subtracting!

Bat Presentations
Once all those bat reports were written we had to decide what we were going to do with them. The class decided they would like to read them to another group of students. So I spoke with a fourth grade classroom teacher and asked if we could buddy them up to read their report. She thought that was a great idea and WOW it was!! We spend a couple days working very hard on being able to read our reports and the proper way to read the report to someone else. We worked on talking loud enough and not putting the paper in front of our face. It was a great time to read these to other students and those 4th grade students even learned something they didn't know about bats. :)
When I Grow Up...
This week is the celebrating the Week of the Young Child. We did a little writing about what we would like to be when we grew up. It is a lot of fun to see what ideas each child has for their future! They are hanging in our hallway hope you get some time to check them out!
Bat Report Writing
WOW! Last week we finished up all our work on bats. We first learned all the facts that we could on them. We learned a lot of really cool things we did not know before! Then we moved on to preparing to write a non-fiction piece of writing all about bats. We started first with a plan to help us figure out what facts were important to us. Then we worked on our ending sentences. They had some great ideas on those. Here are a few pictures of us working hard on writing our reports.
