Night Before Christmas House

One more project we spent some time on was the Night Before Christmas house.  We had to first color the wheel and then decorate the house.  The teacher then put the pieces together.  Finally we read the story and moved our wheel along with the different parts of the story.  It was a lot of fun and we really saw some very creative houses!

Reindeer Cards

Today we were able to make a VERY special reindeer card for the students to take home!  We really had a great time making these and hope you enjoy them just as much.  The students have a little of themselves in these cards.  :)  We hope that you are able to notice how these are so special.  Our hands and feet were extra busy to create these!

Favorite Things

Today we worked hard on coming up with our favorite things about Christmas.  We had to fill in the sentence and then draw a picture of what it was.  Then we were able to share our writing and drawing with everyone in the class.  We had a large variety of what everyone enjoys about Christmas.  Hope you enjoyed looking at these papers as they came home.

Gingerbread Men

We were busy reading about the gingerbread man so we decided to make one into an ornament for the tree one afternoon.  We had a lot of fun acting out the book and being different parts.  Then we had even more fun creating one to hang on our tree.  Hope you enjoyed it when it came home!

Christma Writing

We have been using our writing time to write about Christmas.  We are getting more and more excited as the days go by!  So we spent some time coming up with what we think Christmas is.  Then they filled in the blank on their page and drew some really awesome pictures!  Hope you enjoyed these when they came home!!

Big Belly Santa

Yesterday we took a little time out of our learning to create a big belly Santa to bring home.  This took some time to color them just "perfect" but we did a wonderful job.  Then we attached them to a red bowl and WOW we had our own big belly Santa.  The students had many wonderful ideas on what they were going to put in their bowls when they got home!  Hope you enjoyed them!!!

Santa Cards and Placemats

Today we were busy working on a card to someone of our choosing!  We were very excited because we were able to pick who we wanted to give the card to and write something to them.  Then we were able to create our own placemat for the Holiday Party this coming Friday.  These will come home after the party!  Christmas fun is keeping us busy!!!

Making Words

We worked on making words today with a partner.  Then we did a few activities where they would take the first or the last letter away and tell everyone what the new word they made was.  It was a lot of fun and great to see them working together with another student!!

We are continuing our work in our Daily 5 routine.  The students have really made some tremendous improvements in their work on writing.  They write in a journal daily.  We are really working on making sentences using all the components we have practiced.  So far we have worked on spaces, starting with a capital letter, having a who and a what, and finally using an ending mark.

Math:
We have been busy in our math this month of December!  We just finished up our Chapter 6 on Measurement.  We will spend the last few days before break reviewing numbers to 30.  Our chapter on measurement was a lot of fun and the students did excellent on it.  We were able to play some games about taller/shorter, using a balance to weigh objects in our room, and even working on capacity.  We will be ready for the new unit in January on 2D and 3D shapes!

Health:
We have been working hard in health discussing a variety of different topics.  We spent last week discussing feelings, tattling, and apologizing.  They were really good at understanding different feelings.  Then we discussed the importance of know the difference between tattling and reporting.  Finally we worked on the correct way to apologize to others.  We then started discussing the character traits.  Please be asking your child to share what they have learned.
