Synthesis Super Hero!

We spent the last 2 weeks talking about synthesis!  We learned that it is something you use your schema with and your ideas change as you read.  We talked about your idea can start out small and then get bigger or it can start out big and get smaller!  We had a lot of fun!  We finally got to become a synthesis super hero!  We LOVED it and learned A LOT!!

Savings Day!

We were very lucky to have two ladies from GNB Bank come and talk to us about saving!  They introduced us to the money tree!  Stop into the bank to see what we are saving for!

Bat Presentations!

After all our hard work on bats we were able to present to some 4th grade students!  We had so much fun!  Here are a couple pictures of some of our friends presenting!

We are going Batty!!!!

We have spent the past 2 weeks working on how to write an informative piece.  We decided to spend time learning about bats!  We talked about what we wondered about them and then spent a lot of time reading books on bats to learn facts.  We kept a list of facts in our room plus many of us has facts in our heads!  :)  We then talked about a topic sentence and ending sentence.  We did a mapping of the facts we wanted to share with others and finally wrote up our informative writing.  Then we were able to share them to the 4th graders!  It was so much fun and we learned a lot!  We hope to share some of that with you when our papers come home about bats!!!

Reading
We have really been working on a variety of comprehension strategies in our classroom.  We are working on Metacognition, Schema, making a picture in your mind, determining importance, questioning, and inferring.  All of these take a lot of time and require your child to think about what they are reading in their book club books.  Please ask them to tell you what each of these mean!

Math
We are continuing to work on our subtraction unit.  This has been a challenge in our room.  We are spending a lot of time reviewing that you count up all that you have first.  This will be your biggest number.  Then you take away and what you have left is the answer.  Please continue to practice at home.

Science/SS/Health
In Science we are continuing to work on their wood unit but have moved to the paper side of it.  The kids love testing out the different papers!  In SS we have been discussing jobs and what kinds of jobs people have.  We have also spent time discussing how to save money.
