October 31st – 2 hour late start
October 31st – Halloween Parade in the gym 2:30
November 14th – 2 hour late start

Work on your numbers all the way to 30 by counting and writing.
Practice saying words and having your child clap out the syllables in the words.

Math
We have been very busy Kindergarteners in math these past two weeks. In math we have been busy working on our numbers to 30.  This is a tough concept for all the students to understand.  We have counted items to 30, wrote the numbers to 30, and sequenced the numbers to 30.  Please work on this at home as this is a goal we have for Kindergarten.

Reading
We are continuing all of our work in our Daily’s.  The students have been working very hard on their writing in their journals.  Each day they have a sentence to copy and fill in the ending of it with a variety of different words.  Their job is to sound them out the best they can to figure out the spelling of the word.  They are doing a very nice job.  Ask them to write something for you at home to see how much they have improved.  We have been working on final sounds in words.  This can be tough so practicing at home is helpful.

Halloween Parade

Please send a simple costume to school with your child on Monday, October 31st. We will parade into the gym at 2:30 for you to watch.  It is important that this costume be something your child can put on independently.  Also please remember to follow our No weapons policy at school.  Thanks for everything!

Word Wall Words!

Hello!

We hope that you are noticing a green paper with 2 to 3 words on it coming home at the beginning of each week.  On the top of this paper is states, "Word Wall Words".  These are some of the Kindergarten Word Wall Words and these are the ones that we are focusing on during that week at school.  So I will send that paper home for you to practice with your child.  You can have them say the word and if they already know the word then you can move on to having your child spell the words.  Please remember even if your child knows these words they are still very important words to practice and have in our memories.  These words are constantly in the books we read and it really helps if your child just knows them by heart.  :)

After a couple of weeks I will start sending home challenge words with students who already know the first 25 words.  We have a list that has a total of 155 words on it they can work on.  If they would end up knowing all those we then will spend some time working on how to spell these words as that is crucial when they go into 1st grade.

v Start looking at the numbers in the teens for your child to recognize.

Reading
We have been working very hard in our Daily’s every morning.  We now have all 5 of them in place and do three each morning for 20 minutes.  While the students are doing their Daily’s I am working with small groups on a variety of reading skills.  Some are working on letters, sounds, blending, and reading books.  Keep working hard at home on all these skills.  It will show in the classroom!

Math
We have spent the last 2 weeks working on counting to 10, writing numbers to 10, comparing numbers to 5 and 10, and finally ordering numbers to 10.  We have been very busy.  Please work on ordinal numbers to 10 as this is very hard for the students.  Also please continue to practice writing numbers at home as we do occasionally still write them backwards.
SS/Sci/Health
We have been busy in these areas for the past two weeks.  In SS we have been working on homes and Christopher Columbus.  In Health, the students are wrapping up feelings and have been working on how to express when they are worried.  Finally in Science, the students are still working on trees and now have moved on to discussing the parts.
