Read to Someone

We have been working very hard with our afternoon friends on Read to Someone.  This is a time after lunch that we get to spend reading books to one another.  It is also a little down time for us to relax after our busy morning.  Some of our friends are actually reading books to one another.  They really enjoy being able to show their talent to another friend!

Daily's

Here are just a few photos of some of the things we have been up to during our Daily time in the morning.  They really are working hard during this time and learning a lot!  Enjoy!

What we see....

We spent some time last week working on sounding out words and writing them down.  We read a book about fall and the students were given a page that said, " I see a ______."  They had to fill in the blank.  It was very interesting to see what they came up with and also how they were able to sound out the word that they wanted to write.  It is something we will keep on working at.  It was easier for some and a little harder for others.  Please try to have your child sound out words and write them at home.  It will be good practice for them.

Dot Day........

Our classroom took part in celebrating Dot Day on Friday.  National Dot Day was on September 15th, 2012.  This celebration is about taking the time to be creative.  The students did something of their own creations with a dot.  This goes along with the book, "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds.  We have not read the book yet because this week we will meet with our 2nd grade buddies and do another Dot Day activity which includes reading the book.

We were able to go on to the Dot Day international website and view some clips of what other schools have done for Dot Day and to see how much fun it was for them and to get some ideas.

This Dot Day was created by a teacher at North Tama School District....so not to far from here.  We enjoyed working on our dots.  The students were given a circle dot to decorate.  They are hanging in our hallway for you to come check out sometime.

Enjoy our pictures!

Patterns OH Patterns~

We have been working this week and part of last week on patterns.  It has been a lot of fun to really challenge the students to answer some of my more difficult questions on patterns.  We have just spent time creating patterns, determining where the pattern starts to repeat, and comparing different patterns.

Today was all about creating their own patterns.  It was a lot of fun to see what they could create with items and what they would come up with on paper!

Enjoy our world of patterns!
