Red Ribbon Week

Last week we were very busy talking about Red Ribbon Week.  The students had a ball dressing up for the days we had planned.  They also got to go to a fun assembly called "Rockin' Prevention".  It was a great assembly that had a lot of music and dance movements to get us rockin' but also thinking about why we need to be drug free.  Here are some pictures from our assembly.  We were able to go up in front of the audience and show off our talents.  The students loved it!

Compare that number!

We were able to spend some time last week counting out and comparing two numbers.  It was a lot of fun to see what two numbers they came up with and if they know which one was more or fewer.  We had a lot of fun!  They love to count out objects.  Have them show you their awesome counting skills at home sometime!

Spider Web!~

We created a spider web in our classroom.  The only way you could get an end of the web to hold on to was by telling us the final sound in a word.  The students loved rolling the ball of yarn around to their friends and listening to them give their final sound.  Then once everyone had a chance we were able to stand up and see our spider web.  It was a lot of fun and they are ready to do it again!

Enjoy!

Have your child clap out the syllables in words.

Math
We have been very busy Kindergarteners in math these past two weeks. In math we have been busy working on our numbers to 30.  This is a tough concept for all the students to understand.  We have spent much of our time reading and writing the numbers to 20 currently and will start going to 30 the following week. Please practice this at home. The teens are tough!

Reading
We are continuing all of our work in our Daily’s.  The students have been working very hard on their writing in their journals.  Each day they have a sentence to copy and fill in the ending of it with a variety of different words.  Their job is to sound them out the best they can to figure out the spelling of the word.  They are doing a very nice job.  Ask them to write something for you at home to see how much they have improved.  We have been working on final sounds in words.  This can be tough so practicing at home is helpful.

Numbers Oh Numbers! ~~

We have been very busy in math working with counting, writing, and reading numbers.  It is very important that your child can at least count, write, and read numbers to 30.  So this is something that can be worked on at home.  Please know that we do not test the numbers always in order so knowing them at random is VERY important.  Here are some pictures of a variety of activities we have been doing to work on numbers.  Right now we just finished up our unit on numbers to 10 and will start numbers to 30 today!

Thanks for all your hard work!!

Halloween Parade Info

Please send a simple costume to school with your child on Wednesday, October 31st. We will parade into the gym at 2:30 for you to watch.  It is important that this costume be something your child can put on independently.  Also please remember to follow our No weapons policy at school.  Thanks for everything!

Fire Safety

On Friday of last week we were able to have a fire truck come and some firefighters talk to our class.  We went outside and they showed us all around the fire truck and what was in the fire truck.  The firefighters also took the time to talk about some fire safety rules and showed us what they look like in their fire equipment.  It was a great experience.  We had a lot of fun listening and seeing what they have!

1.  Make sure you have a fire safety spot outside your house in case you have a fire.
2.  Discuss stop, drop, and rolling with your child if they would happen to catch on fire.
3.  Practice your phone number and address in case of any emergency.

v Start looking at the numbers in the teens for your child to recognize.

Reading
We have been working very hard in our Daily’s every morning.  We now have all 5 of them in place and do three each morning for 20 minutes.  While the students are doing their Daily’s I am working with small groups on a variety of reading skills.  Some are working on blending words, word wall words, and reading books.  Keep working hard at home on all these skills.  It will show in the classroom!

Math
We have spent the last 2 weeks working on counting to 10, writing numbers to 10, comparing numbers to 5 and 10, and finally ordering numbers to 10.  We have been very busy.  Please work on ordinal numbers to ten, as this is very hard for the students.  Also please continue to practice writing numbers at home as we do occasionally still write them backwards.

SS/Sci/Health
We have been busy in these areas for the past two weeks.  In SS we have been working on homes and Christopher Columbus.  In Health, the students are discussing some items for fire safety week.  Finally in Science, the students are still working on trees and now have moved on to discussing the parts.  Please ask your child to tell you about all of our subjects in school!

"Count" On Us!

We are busy with counting in math.  It is a lot of fun to call out a number and see the excitement in their eyes on how they are going to count out that many objects.  Have your child do some counting for you at home!

Center Excitement!

Here are some photos from our center time that we have 3 times a week.  The students love the chance to make their own choices and have a bit of freedom from all our academics.  It is a great time and a way for them to work on their social skills.

Fall Fitness FUN!!!!

We had a BLAST on fall fitness day.  We spent an hour in the gym early in the day doing a variety of fitness activities.  It was a lot of fun because the students knew what we were going to do and they got to help us (the teachers) figure out what to do.  It was great to see them doing something so many of them enjoy.  I also want to thank those of you who helped with the walk to school day.  We had 15 of our 18 friends walk to school.  What a success!

Hope you enjoy our photos!
