We have been working very hard on our Informative writing skills. We spent last week learning all sorts of different information we could about bats. We have learned A LOT of great information. Now this week we are taking all our findings to paper and writing our first informative piece of writing. We are hoping by the end of the week we will be able to present it to another class! It has been a lot of fun!

We
spent the week before spring break reviewing all the comprehension strategies
that we have practice so far. It
was great to see what they remembered and how they were able to take things a
step further into their learning.
Now this week we have moved on to inferring while reading. We do this by looking at the clues
while we are reading to draw meaning from them. This can be a bit tricky so we spend a couple weeks doing
activities to help us really understand this concept.
Math:
We are continuing to
work on our subtraction unit. This
has been a challenge in our room.
We are spending a lot of time reviewing that you count up all that you
have first. This will be your
biggest number. Then you take away
and what you have left is the answer.
Please continue to practice at home. All week we have worked on a variety of ways to
subtract. We used objects, touch
math, and a number line.
Science:
We have been very busy
discussing the different parts that trees have. We also have discussed that all trees have these parts. Then we moved to leaves. We have been able to find some great
leaves to really look at. We have
learned that leaves all have a shape that they can fit into and no two leaves
are exactly the same. This has
been fun and we can’t wait to keep up all our investigating.
Helpful
Hints:
· Start talking about
place value with the tens and ones.
· Continue adding and
subtracting!
· Read each night at
home to continue their improvements.

Preparing for St. Patrick's Day
Before break we spent all of our writing time working on different things that dealt with St. Patrick's Day! We had a great time! We wrote about 3 wishes we would have if we found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Also we wrote about who is more important to us than a pot of gold! Hope you enjoyed all these things coming home!

We have
been very busy working on determining importance and visualizing in our
reading. We spent a lot of time
working on finding the hidden clues to determine the importance in our books we
read. Also we took time to make
pictures in our minds while reading to help us with visualizing the story.
Also many of us moved
to a new level in our book clubs so we are enjoying reading harder books. If they did not move to a new level
they are continuing their hard work at their level. We are really working on the strategies of sounding out,
looking at the beginning sound, and chunking the word to figure it out!
Math:
We have been very busy
finishing up our addition unit. We
worked on understanding that adding means you are getting more. We spent time on the plus sign and the
equal sign. They also know how to
write an addition sentence all on their own. Keep working on this at home. In our new unit we will be working on subtraction. The
students will be learning about how when you subtract that means you are taking
away. This can be harder so we are
taking extra time to make sure we understand this concept! Please discuss this at home also!
Science:
We began our Science
unit discussing trees! What a
topic to discuss with all this snow on the ground but we have been
creative! J We
have discussed the main parts of all trees, looked at a real tree, and we have
even been working on figuring out the shapes of trees. It has been a lot of fun and we are
excited to move on to learning about the leaves on trees next!

Hints:
· Practice Counting by
10’s to 100!
· Start working on basic
subtraction at home. 2 minus 1
equals 1.
