MEGA PARTY!!

Here are some pics from the Mega party!  I had a hard time getting everyone as they were everywhere!  It was a great time!!

Sentence Creations~

We have been spending a lot of time during writing to create really good sentences.  We have talked about a who, a what, and when.  We even have been working on adding more exciting to words to what we write.  The students were able to get the chance to work in groups and put silly sentences back together.  It turned out to be a lot of fun!

Valentine Box Creations!

We spent some time before Valentine's Day decorating our boxes!  We had SO MUCH fun!  The boxes turned out beautiful!

Skip Counting Fun!

We spent a few days working on skip counting.  We practiced counting by 10's to 100.  It was a lot of fun and we were able to practice in a variety of ways!  Have your child show you sometime!

Valentine's Party!!

We had a great time at our Valentine's Day party!  We had awesome food to eat and a great time looking at our Valentine's!  Thanks for everyone who provided food and Valentine's!!

Reading/Writing
We have been working hard on comprehension strategies in our reading.  We are working on metacognition which is thinking about our thinking and schema.  Schema is what we already know about what we are reading.  Always ask questions at home as they read.  In writing we have been writing about President’s Day!

Math
We spent some time working on counting by 10’s to 100.  Please practice this at home to reinforce it.  We also started our new chapter on basic addition skills.  We have worked very hard on these and are hoping to continue to add bigger numbers together.   This can be a tough concept for many to understand so any practice at home will be very helpful to their learning of basic addition.  We have spent a lot of time figuring out different ways to make numbers.  Check their papers as they come home to help practice our skills.

Reading/Writing
We are really getting into reading the books in our new levels.  We have worked with a lot of books that are nonfiction.  We discussed how these books give us real information.  Ask your child to tell you if their IMC book is fiction or nonfiction.  We have really been practicing our writing skills.  We have done many lessons on how to create sentences.  We are really focusing on using spaces, capital letters, and periods.  We know these are important.  Have your child do some writing at home to show you their improvements.

Math
In math we have been very busy working on shapes, 3 dimensional shapes, symmetry, fractions, and dividing objects to share.  We will be taking a little bit of time next week to work on skip counting by 10’s to 100.  Please take some time and work with your child on this skill.

In Science the students have been doing experiments on wood.  They are looking at how it reacts to water and whether it floats.  In SS we have been discussing things that happened long ago.  In Health they are busy discussing Healthy habits that will make them live a long life.
