5:
WOW!! We have been busy learning in
kindergarten. We have spent the
last couple of weeks discussing metacognition and schema in our room. We learned that metacognition is
thinking about our thinking while reading. Then we learned that schema is what we already know about
what we are reading. We have done
a lot of activities to help reinforce what these mean and to learn how to use
these while reading books. Ask
your child to share their ideas with you as they are reading to you.
Math:
Adding….Adding…Adding! That is what we have been up to in
math. These students are working
hard to be able to fluently add up to 5 in our classroom. We have worked on many different ways
to solve addition problems. We
have used counting objects, using a number line, and learning how to do touch
math. A note will be coming home
about touch math so be sure to take a look! Also any extra practice with addition within 10 would be
great!
Health/Social
Studies:
We have finished up our
Health unit on talking about good habits to have in life. We spent a lot of time on Being
Proactive (making changes in our lives) and setting goals. We each set a goal and it is hanging in
our room of something we wanted to do to make a change. Many of these goals were about making
our beds and cleaning our rooms. J
Then we spent this past week discussing President’s Day. We spent some time on each president:
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
We sure did learn a lot!
Helpful
Hints:
· Practice Counting by
10’s to 100!
· Start working on basic
subtraction at home. 2 minus 1
equals 1.
