We have
really been working on a variety of comprehension strategies in our
classroom. We are working on
Metacognition, Schema, making a picture in your mind, determining importance,
questioning, and inferring. All of
these take a lot of time and require your child to think about what they are
reading in their book club books.
Please ask them to tell you what each of these mean! We are also beginning to re-test for
new levels at our Guided Reading Level.
Please make sure to ask your child how they are doing.
Math:
We started these past
two weeks off with a new math unit on the numbers to 100. We have the first 30 down but now are
really working on the rest. Some
of us are really good with these numbers and a great at helping all of us
understand. We have spent the last
2 weeks understanding the tens and ones that go into making these numbers. It can be tricky but we are getting
it. J
Science:
We have finished up our
investigations on leaves and now we are working on what comes from trees. We spent some time outside under the
trees picking up objects that might have fallen from a tree. That was a lot of fun! We are still going to continue to go on
many “hunts” as we continue to learn about different types of trees.
Helpful
Hints:
· Start to work on recognizing and
counting penny, nickel, and dimes.
· Start talking about place value
the tens and ones.
· Continue adding and subtracting!
