*     November 27-29- No School

Daily 5:
During our reading time we are still doing our Daily’s and meeting with the teacher to work on a variety of skills.  We have been working very hard on the ending sounds in words, writing words how they sound, and talking about the concepts of print.  We are going to continue this plus add more to what we already have been doing.  Please keep reading and practicing reading at home.

Math:
In math we have been busy working on our numbers to 30.  This is a tough concept for all the students to understand.  We have counted items to 30, wrote the numbers to 30, and sequenced the numbers to 30.  Please work on this at home as this is a goal we have for Kindergarten.

Social Studies:
This month we are going to spend our time discussing the Pilgrims, Indians, and the First Thanksgiving.  The kids are very excited to learn about all of the interesting things that happened during this time.  So watch as your child brings home some items that might represent things at the First Thanksgiving.

Writing:
We have been spending a lot of our time during writing working on stretching out words and putting spaces between our words.  These can be tough concepts as it is hard to remember to sound out the word fully and to put a space before going on to the next word.  We also just introduced starting our sentences with a capital letter.  Please continue to work on these at home too!

Helpful Hints:
*     Work on counting, writing, and sequencing numbers to 30.
*    Read a book each night with your child.
*    Ask your child something they did in their Daily each evening.

Indian Headbands!

We spent today discussing the first Thanksgiving and the groups of people who celebrated in the first Thanksgiving.  After we came up with the 2 groups then we spent our time discussing the Indians.  We talked about a very important Indian named Squanto and all the things he helped and taught the Pilgrims.  Then we made our own Indian headbands to wear.  We even drew a few Indian pictographs on them!  Enjoy!

Partner Work

We have really been working on how to write a sentence correctly.  Last week we focused on putting spaces between our words and this week we are working on starting all our sentences with a capital letter.  So today we worked with a partner to fix many sentences that did not start with a capital letter.  They had fun and learned while doing it!

Number Order

We have been very busy working on our numbers to 20 and now have even really practiced them to 30.  So we have taken some time to sequence these numbers back into order.  Here we are working very hard!

Pastel Turkeys

We have started our decorating for Thanksgiving in our room!  We first made turkeys.  Each child had to draw their own turkey to a little rhyme.  It was fun to see how they created their turkeys.  Then we were able to color them using pastels rather than markers or crayons.  This was a lot of fun!  Enjoy!  These are now hanging in our room but will come home before Thanksgiving!
