Dates:

   February 17^th – Snow Make Up Day!  We have School!

   February 19^th - Early Dismissal

Daily 5/Writing:

We are really getting into reading the books in our new levels.  We have worked with a lot of books that are nonfiction.  We discussed how these books give us real information.  Ask your child to tell you if their IMC book is fiction or nonfiction.  We have really been practicing our writing skills.  We have done many lessons on how to create sentences.  We are really focusing on using spaces, capital letters, and periods.  We know these are important.  Have your child do some writing at home to show you their improvements.

Math:

We started our new chapter on basic addition skills.  We have worked very hard on these and are hoping to continue to add bigger numbers together.   This can be a tough concept for many to understand so any practice at home will be very helpful to their learning of basic addition.  We have spent a lot of time figuring out different ways to make numbers.  Check their papers as they come home to help practice our skills.  The next chapter is all about addition.

Health:

We have spent a lot of time talking about keeping our bodies and hearts healthy.  Then we did a really fun activity to show how fast germs spread when we do not wash our hands.  We used glitter then moved about giving high fives and touching tables.  We were able to see how the germs get everywhere and how quickly they spread plus it was just a lot of fun.  J  Then we moved on to dental health tips.  February is dental health month so the nurse came in to discuss the best ways for us to take care of our teeth.  Please ask your child to share with you what they are learning!

Helpful Hints:

·      Practice writing numbers all the way to 100.

·      Have your child start spelling their word wall words.

·      Continue working on basic addition problems.

Pajama Day!!

On Friday we were able to enjoy a day of wearing our pajamas to school if we wanted too!  It was a lot of fun to see all the different types of pajamas.  We can't wait to earn our next set of stars to see what we get for working so hard at school!!

100 Day FUN!!

Here is just a quick snapshot of what we looked like by the end of the day!  :) 

What could you eat 100 of????

We took a little time to think long and hard of what we could eat 100 items of!  WOW this was tough for some and very easy for others.  They all had a variety of ideas and were great ideas!  Hope you enjoyed when those papers came home!

100 Day Writing

Another fun activity on the 100th day was doing a little bit of writing.  We spent some time answering some questions that all dealt with the number 100.  They had some great answers to each question and also loved sharing them aloud!!

Metacognition

WOW!!!  That is one big word!  We spent out week last week working on that word and discussing what it means.  Metacognition is thinking about our thinking.   We are working on reading the text plus thinking about what we are reading to create real thinking!  It was a lot of fun.  Each day we did a different activity to help us think about our thinking while Mrs. Hendershot read us a story.  One day the students used a marker board and had to draw or write their thinking on it and then we would share.  Another day we did an understand and don't understand sticky note poster on the board.  It was great to see how much they think about a story.  Ask your child about all these activities!!

100th Day Glasses

On Thursday we had our 100th day of school!!!  Oh the fun we had that day!  We were very busy doing a variety of 100 day activities!!  First we started off our day by working on coloring and cutting out a pair of 100 day glasses to wear around that day!  Hope your child showed them off to you after school that day!
